Cloud providers (optional)
Bring your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, or xAI. Keys live in the macOS Keychain.
Local models are the default and need no setup. If you want a frontier model instead, plug in your own API key:

Settings → AI → Inference provider: pick Cloud API key, choose the provider, paste your key. You can override the model ID per provider.
Things worth knowing:
- Keys are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in preferences or on disk in plain text.
- Key changes apply on the very next message — no restart.
- Responses stream over SSE exactly like local ones; apply-edit diffs, citations, and the rest of the chat features work the same.
- With a cloud provider active, your prompts and document context go to that provider. The chat input shows a banner if the selected provider has no key saved.
Switch back to Local any time; the downloaded models stay put.
